iQuestions Faculty, Dr. David Eckman
Question:
What can the church do about pornography?
Answer:
The church can do an awful lot about pornography. The first is the
recognition that we have an avalanche going on— an avalanche of
pornography— entering into the homes of the people and the churches.
It reaches all the way down to the seven- or eight-year-olds, all the
way up to the older adults.
That being the case, an open-hearted dialogue about the problem of
pornography would be a real gift to the men and women of the
congregation.
Secondly, if there could be a dialogue between the two genders, that
would just be great— because women need to understand how men are
being ambushed by this stuff, and men need to understand that
women are simply being reduced to how they appear.
We are in a cultural crisis, and we need to be straight-forward, loving,
honest about the challenge of this age. We are in an addictive age,
and we cannot act otherwise.
