Question:
What should I do when I’m expected to compromise personal values at
work?
Answer:
What should you do if you’re asked to compromise your basic values at
work?
It’s a tough situation. You know, we run into people who have been in
exactly that situation, as we’re employing them, as we’re interviewing
them for jobs—so it must be quite common. What do you do? You
really have to adhere to those core values that make you who are.
You know, it’s said of the early pilgrims in this country that it was as
though they had “swallowed gyroscopes.” What beautiful imagery to
describe somebody who has a core set of values, and stays by them.
It may cost a job, but it will open up other opportunities. Stay true to
who you are.
