iQuestions Faculty, John D. Beckett
Question:
How can I work with co-workers that have different values than me?
Answer:
One of the realities in the workplace is that we’re going to be working
alongside others who have values that are very different from ours.
How do you approach that?
Well, I would say the first is to really seek to understand that other
person. They may have issues that are affecting the way that they
behave or think, and understanding will go a long way toward building
a bridge with that person.
Secondly, I would encourage us to live our lives transparently in front
of the other person. Who knows but what there is something out of
our life, our experience, that can really help them to address an issue
that may be something that bothers them just as much as it bothers
us.
Seek to understand, and then live transparently.
