Question: 
 
Can you really earn enough money working in a home-based/direct-
sales business to support a family? 
 
Answer: 
 
RANDY: Can you really earn enough money to support a family in a 
home-based business? 
 
ELIZABETH: Yes, you can. 
 
RANDY: Absolutely. We have been in this industry fulltime for 19 
years. We’ve been with the same company for 21 years and you can 
absolutely make enough money. 
 
Let me just tell you a little bit of our story. I was a homebuilder in the 
mid-1980s. The economy of Texas went down the tubes. Oil went to 
$10 barrel, and all of the sudden, overnight, I had 15 houses sitting 
empty. For two years we were losing $30,000 a month. Elizabeth was 
a retired school teacher and a stay-at-home mom. 
 
We heard about this direct-sales business, we got into it, and 
immediately began to work. 
 
ELIZABETH: And I tell you, that was the whole key. We learned to 
work hard, we learned to work smart, and we learned how to motivate 
ourselves.  And I think that’s the downfall that people fall into: they 
don’t know how to motivate themselves. 
 
 
 
Even though we had a lot of debt from losing our homebuilding 
business, we let that motivate us so that we could move forward 
instead of letting it paralyze us.   
 
That was a huge factor in building this business. 
 
ELIZABETH: A lot of times people in our industry will say, “Well, it just 
didn’t work.” What they are really saying is they didn’t work because if 
you work your home-based business out of your home and you work it 
hard and work it smart, you can do quite well. 
 
I have been in a lot of things and over the years we’ve never found 
anything that we enjoyed doing as much as selling jewelry. Women 
love jewelry, and for us it has been a great combination, a great fit for 
our family. 
 
ELIZABETH: I really enjoy the product side of this business and being 
able to train and teach people how to have a business. Randy has 
really enjoyed the marketing side of building the business. 
 
That’s a great thing, if you are going to work as a couple, be able to 
find something that you can both grasp a hold of and have fun with it. 
 
RANDY: When you are looking for a business to start, find something 
that you can sell both retail and through distributors, then you can 
build a business by sharing it with others, because the combination of 
the commissions and the retail sales can really help you take care of 
your family needs.  
 
ELIZABETH: Right. We have really found that a lot of people have 
found success in a home-based business and have been able to meet 
the needs of their family and support their family with the income from 
that business. I just love it. I think it is something that anybody can 
do.  
 
 
 
But you have got to have a game plan and you have got to have the 
ability to motivate yourself and know what gets you excited, and then 
just get out there and work.
