iQuestions Faculty, Randy and Elizabeth Draper
Question:
I don't consider myself an outgoing person. Does this mean that I
can’t be successful in a home-based/direct-sales business?
Answer:
ELIZABETH DRAPER: Honest to goodness, I think people that are more
low-keyed typically do even better than real high-wired people. You
tend to, in this business, attract the opposite of what your personality
is, and people that are more low-keyed seem to be having a little more
of a believability factor to them, because a person who is excited all of
the time, they are excited about paper clips, they are excited about
potatoes, they are excited that the grass is green—and so, when they
come across a business experience and share that with people, the
people just go, “Yeah, but you’re excited about everything.”
When someone who is low-keyed gets excited about something,
people really listen to them, and think, “Wow, this must be really a
good deal for her to be this excited about it and show it.”
We had a girl that we worked with in our company years ago, and she
was so shy, she could not even look at us when she talked to us.
RANDY: Yeah, she looked at the ground.
ELIZABETH: And I really thought, “Oh my. I hope she makes her
investment back. I cannot believe this.”
And she said the reason that she wanted to get involved in this
business was because she wanted to more than anything to learn how
to talk in front of people, and how to be able to look people in the
eye—and she knew that this kind of business would force her to have
to overcome one of her biggest fears that really kept her in a box for
so much of her life.
I will never forget, after she got involved and got trained and started
doing her business and going into people’s homes and meeting them
and encouraging them, she was one of the most outstanding
distributors that we ever had. She overcame the greatest fear that she
had, because she forced herself to get out of her comfort zone and do
something like a home-based business.
