iQuestions Faculty, Randy and Elizabeth Draper
Question:
Do you have any suggestions on creative ways to get bookings/
contacts for home-shows/home-based businesses?
Answer:
RANDY: That’s a great question. Home shows are the key to a home-
based business.
ELIZABETH: I know that’s probably a big question for you, “Where do I
go after I have talked to my friends and my family, and they’ve all had
shows for me?”
There are a lot of options out there. You can go to trade shows craft
fairs, call some of the different women’s organizations in your
community, and you could volunteer yourself for a program. They
would love to have you there and then you can demonstrate whatever
you sell and get bookings from that.
You could also tell your friends, “Hey, I need more bookings and I
want to get some out of this circle that I’m with. Could you give me
some names of people?” and then give them a little prize, maybe part
of your product for free, just for doing that for you.
RANDY: One thing I have done to help Elizabeth with our business is
when I am out running around and talking to men on job sites or
around the offices I just say, “Hey, what’s your wife doing? I don’t
know if you all need some extra money, or if your wife loves jewelry,
but you ought to talk to Elizabeth about her business.”
I have found that I can really help her by just getting out and talking
to people.
Sometimes, I will see a lady at a store or in an office building, and I
just say to her, “Hey, I know by looking at you that you don’t like
jewelry, do you?” And they will say, “I love jewelry,” so I will say,
“Well, you ought to talk to my wife about our jewelry business.”
It’s just a great way to help you find prospects for bookings or find
prospects for the business.
