Question:
My wife is considering a home-based business. What should I do?
Answer:
If your wife is considering getting involved in a home-based business
and getting out and selling a product of any kind, let me just
encourage you to get involved. Go with her to those initial meetings,
ask questions, find out about the company and the people, look at the
marketing plan, look at the product, give her your opinion and help
her make a wise decision.
Don’t discourage her from starting a home-based business. I tell you,
guys, I always tell other men, “If you treat your wife like a million, she
might make you a million in this industry,” and I really believe she
can. As a matter of fact, I’m treating my wife like $10 million.
You need to be an encouragement. How can you encourage her you
might ask? You’re going to encourage her by keeping the house in
order while she is out at night selling her products. You’re going to
help with the kids. It’s not babysitting when you are looking after your
own children. It’s childcare. It’s child-rearing your own kids.
I have to tell you, my boys are 22 and 24, and I have an incredible
relationship with them, largely because when Elizabeth was out
holding a jewelry show, we were at home doing things that Mom didn’t
let us do when she was there—jumping on the furniture, getting
muddy out in the backyard, making a mess. I always had it cleaned up
and everything put back in order before she came home at the end of
an evening.
Another opportunity for you is to serve your wife. Just encourage her.
Watch what you say. Give her positive reinforcement. Give her good,
constructive criticism when asked. But I will tell you, most of the time
when they come in and they’ve got something bothering them, they
don’t want us to fix it, they just want us to encourage them, they just
want us to listen—and if you will do that, your wife will build a home-
based business that might actually allow you to quit your job some
day, and stay home and be a part of that business with her, right
there in the comfort of your own home.
