What can I do if I hate my job? 
 
Answer: 
 
If you hate your job, I’m sorry about that.  
 
One of the things you need to consider are the choices you have, 
because you always have a choice.  
 
First of all, what is it that you hate about your job? Get a piece of 
paper, divide it in half. On one side put what you like about your job, 
and on the other what you hate about your job. You might find out 
that there are not quite that many things you hate about it, and a lot 
more things you like about it.  
 
Secondly, as you’re thinking about not liking your job, if you can focus 
on those things you like—what is it about your job that you really 
love?  
 
There must be something in your job. Maybe it’s just the people—and 
I shouldn’t say just the people you work with, maybe it is the people 
you work with.  
 
Maybe it’s the fact that it’s close to home. There may be lots of things 
you can love about your job. It’s an attitude that you look at: the glass 
half empty or the glass half full. You can choose to look for those 
positive things. 
 
 
Another thing to think about is: how is hating your job affecting you 
physically and emotionally? The stress level we cause ourselves by 
hating eats away at us—that’s a negative emotion that’s going to take 
things out of your “emotional bank account.”  
 
Loving feels your emotional bank account back up again. So choose to 
focus on what the things are you really do like about your job.  
 
If the toll is too great, you also have the other choice of simply 
quitting and finding another place in the company or finding another 
place to work.  
 
It is your choice. The most important thing I think I can say to you is: 
really try hard to understand that you don’t have to be a victim. If you 
hate your job and you talk about that and you think about that, the 
only person who’s going to be hurt is you.  
 
Choices, choices. You have a choice.
