Question:
How can I stop from letting fear control my life?
Answer:
Everyone has been fearful about something or even someone. No one
wants to live in fear, but the truth is, there are genuine fear-producing
situations. There is rational fear of impending doom or harm and there
is irrational fear. What’s the point here? God does not want you to be
controlled by your fear. In other words, the Bible says, “Do not fear,
for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will
strengthen you, and help you. I will uphold you with my righteous
right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10)
I think the best thing to do is to take the promises that God has for us,
to be our Help, and our Comforter. I read this passage in Isaiah 41:10,
“Do not fear, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your
God. I will strengthen you, and help you. I will uphold you with my
righteous right hand”, and in truth, whatever is controlling you right
now, is not God’s perfect will for you, to be controlled, or to be in a
state of fear.
So, take God at His Word. Know He will be with you. Claim the truth
that, when I am afraid, I will trust in You. Fear, when out of control, is
a bluff to your mind. Think about the Wizard of Oz. There’s Dorothy,
the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion. They were so fearful of
this Wizard of Oz. Then, toward the end of the story, you find it’s just
a little man behind a curtain—a little man who’s bluffing their
emotions. Fear, when out of control, is a bluff to your emotions. Don’t
let that little man behind the curtain control you. Say, “God, I’m giving
my control, the control of my life, to You. When I am afraid, I will trust
in You. Thank you that I can put my trust in You.”
