Question:
When I drive my car I love to listen to music. Is it okay for my kids to
listen with me?
Answer:
Take the words from music—I’m talking about older children, not
younger children—from some of the songs they’re listening to and
graft them. What is the leading word that’s being said within this
song?
You would be shocked that a lot of times within contemporary music
the leading words are sexual words, they’re demeaning words, they’re
words that cut against values and faith.
If the children look at that and graft that—since 74% of the girls from
twelve to twenty-four say that they don’t want that—as soon as you
show it to them they say, “Why am I listening to this?”
There’s a lot of great music out there. I don’t want to be seen as a
negative nabob, because I’m not. I believe that there’s good out there.
The key is discernment to know the difference between what’s good
and evil, and wisdom is choosing the good based on your values
system.
