Question:
Life is not worth living. Is suicide an unpardonable sin? Doesn't God
understand how I feel?
Answer:
At times when you feel life is hopeless; when you feel like life isn’t
worth living; when you feel like, “Oh, God, I just wish the pain would
stop, maybe the way to do this is just to end my life,” God does
understand. He knows everything, so He understands the deepest pain
in your heart.
Is it the unpardonable sin to commit suicide? No. Rejecting His work in
your life, so that you would not come into a relationship with Christ,
that’s the only unpardonable sin ever mentioned in the Bible. So, it’s
not unpardonable to commit suicide, but the question is, “Is this God’s
best for you?”
Every person whom I’ve talked with who is suicidal, it’s not that
they’re wanting to literally kill themselves; that’s not the point. It’s
that they want the pain to stop. So, what happens is, we look at
something right now, a situation right now that’s painful. Realize that
after a period of time, our feelings change. In fact, life is not always
the same. It’s continually changing.
What are reasons not to commit suicide, based on what God has said
in His word?
Number one: suicide rejects God’s offer of inner peace. The Bible says,
“Do not be anxious about anything, but by everything with prayer and
petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God.” (Philippians
4:6) And, when you present your request, you’re being very specific
about what your heart is feeling; the hurt in your life. And, the Bible
says: “And the peace of God will transcend all understanding. Guard
your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:7) You see, you
need a guarded heart. You need a guarded mind. And so, the point is,
continue to pray, pray, pray. Depend upon the Lord, saying, “I need
you, I need you, I need you,” and after a period of time, your feelings
will change. No matter what, He is going to give you peace.
Reason number two for not committing suicide: suicide rejects God’s
sovereignty over your life. Are you aware that God has already stated
what your final day will be, according to His design? In Psalm 139, the
writer, King David, said: “All the days ordained for me were written in
Your book, before one of them came to be.” So, you have no concept
of how He will actually use your life, until the final day of your life.
Number three: suicide rejects God’s right to be Lord over your life. You
see, when you truly become a Christian, receiving Jesus as your
personal Lord and Savior, you have given Him your life, you’ve given
Him control of your life. And, in 1 Corinthians 6:19, we read; “Do you
not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, Who is in
you, Whom you have received from God? You are not your own. He is
the one Who owns you.” Let Him have control, and keep letting Him
have control, of your life.
Number four: suicide rejects God’s commandment not to murder. This
is very simple. One of the Ten Commandments, one of the ten biggies,
is; “Thou shalt not kill.” Meaning, “Thou shalt not murder.” Well, in
this case, it’s self-murder.
Number five: suicide rejects God’s ability to heal your hurts; lay out
your need for healing, inner healing, in your life, and He truly knows
how to heal your hurts.

Number six: suicide rejects God’s plan to give you hope. I love this
passage in Jeremiah 29:11 and it’s the Lord speaking to you. “I know
the plans I have for you, plans to proper you, not to harm you; plans
to give you hope and a future.” He has a positive future for you. Even
though you may not see it, He sees it.
And the last, number seven: suicide rejects God’s power already in
you to make you godly. The bottom line is, God, Who literally has
planned your life from beginning to end; the one Who has the plan and
purposes for the future; He is the One Who has given you power; it’s
His power, to live a Godly life.
Don’t cut your life short. Allow Him to be your Healer. You’ll see that
He will indeed fulfill His promise to give you all the power that you
need to live this life, until He says it’s time for the end.
