Question:
What guidelines are essentials when I need to make a major decision?
Answer:
In truth, life is a series of choices. We all have decisions to make,
every single day. Some decisions are far more important than others.
If it’s what color of socks to wear, that’s no biggie. But there are very,
very significant decisions that can literally change the course of your
life.
So, what principles are you to know that will help you be the person
God created you to be? And, do what God created you to do? If you
choose to do what God says; “do not do,” there will be a repercussion.
If you do what He says to do, there will be a reward. What I’m saying
is, “Why go against God’s will?” He’s the One Who made you. He
knows all about you.
Number two, ask, “What if everyone knew I made this decision?” That
could help us avoid major mistakes in our lives.
The third test is the survey test: “What if everyone followed my
example?” We’re told in I Timothy 4:12: “Set an example for the
believers in speech, life, love, faith, and purity.” Great. Then you don’t
live a life of regret.
What about the spiritual test. Are you being spirit-led, or people-
pressured? Galatians 1:10 says, “Am I now trying to win the approval
of men or of God? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be
the servant of Christ.”
Those are four points.
The fifth point, the stumbling test, is, “Could this cause another person
to stumble, by following my example?” Make a decision, “What could
possibly hurt someone else?”
Sixth, the sanctification test: “Will this keep me from growing in the
character of Christ?” Some things are basically innocent on the
outside, but they really are stumbling blocks to our personal growth.
And the last test, the supreme test: “Does this glorify God?” I
Corinthians 10:31 says: “Whether you eat or drink, or whatever you
do, do it all for the glory of God.”
Our decisions are huge, because they’re going to make the difference
in our lives in terms of having peace; having the blessing of God;
being the kind of person who makes a difference in the lives of others.
And, that’s why we need to know about decision-making. We need to
make the right decisions that are right in God’s sight—because, when
we do that, we have the blessing of God.
