Question:
I’ve been having horrible sexual dreams and I feel like I’m being
spiritually attacked. What can I do to get free?
Answer:
I will never forget the time when a young woman came to me and
said, “Could I talk with you? I don’t know what to do.” She began to
describe dreams. Dreams that would literally cause her to wake up
with her gown wet. Every night she would wake up from these horrible
dreams. She said, “I don’t know what to do.” I said, “Are they sexual
dreams?” She said, “Yes.” “How long have you had them?” I asked and
she said “A long time.” I asked, “For years?” and she answered “Yes.”
At that point, I thought she probably was involved in some relationship
or sexual behavior that wasn’t right. This was her subconscious just
bringing those scenes to her mind. So I began to ask her about sexual
involvement, and she said, “You know, I have a lot of faults, but I
really haven’t committed sexual sins. I just don’t know what to do.”
When I probed and asked her a number of questions, she really had
not been involved in inappropriate sex. I didn’t know if this would work
or not, but if there were a spiritual reason for these sexual dreams,
meaning an ungodly spirit of some kind—we could try a biblical
approach. I had never done this before, but I told her the Bible says
that they overcame him, meaning Satan, by the blood of the Lamb and
the word of their testimony. I had never dealt in this arena before, but
if she was being attacked by Satan, demons, whatever; I was aware of
a number of scriptures about how to help people who were being
defeated.
She said she was willing to do whatever was necessary. I questioned
her about whether she was a Christian, and she was. There was a time
she knew she had given her life to Christ. Through prayer, we declared
“greater is He that is in you,” talking about Christ, “than he that is in
the world”. (1 John 4:4) By acknowledging that Satan is a defeated
enemy and that Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins; His blood
being shed on the cross; that’s when the victory was secured. In other
words, Satan tried to tempt Jesus many times, but He did not fall. He
did not give in. Jesus stayed the course to be the sacrificial Lamb of
God. He would take away the sin of the world. Satan is already
defeated. I’ve read the end of the Book; I know what his destiny is. To
acknowledge that our bodies were intended to be the temple of the
Holy Spirit, which is scriptural, specifically 1 Corinthians 6, it states
clearly: “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy
Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not
your own. You were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your
body.”
I said to her, “I do not know if this will work or not.” I led her in a
prayer. Basically, we prayed “Free me, Lord Jesus, of anything that
would have oppression over me—any flaming darts, any flaming
arrows from the enemy. Thank you for your holy protection. In Jesus
name, I pray.” There was a supernatural battle fought on her behalf,
and victory that Christ won for her. So, don’t assume it’s always just
psychological; there’s some psychological reason that you might have
for bad dreams. This is your first line of offense, meaning use the
offensive weapons here. Then, if that doesn’t work take the authority
that is yours in Christ.
Since that time, when someone has come to me about highly
sexualized, vile dreams, if I can’t give an explanation for it, I use this
approach—spiritual warfare. Another woman came to me, who kept
having bloody dreams and all, and we used this approach and the
dreams were gone. I will not guarantee anything, in terms of “it will

always work” because this is actually God’s fight. It’s His warfare. Just
know that at times you need to have the power of God at work on your
behalf, because I don’t want you defeated by any enemy of God.
Instead, rely on the power of God for your victory.
